Elder Wisdom
in the Movies
Many of the images of aging that we encounter in the media perpetuate the stereotypes that disempower older persons. However, there are a growing number of movies that provide alternate images of aging that allow us to reflect on and personalize particular themes, including life transitions, relationships, and mentoring.Viewing a film together provides an opportunity to: • view a film from a new perspective • reflect on themes that have affected our own lives• share stories and ideas in a safe place• gain insights into how our own lives might become more meaningful.
Series Info: This series could be offered over the noon hour, with particpants bringing a bag lunch, or as an afternoon or early evening activity. The number of sessions can be varied to suit participants. Each viewing would require about 3 hours.
The Heart of Aging with Wisdom and Vitality
Exploring the stories, experiences, and lessons accumulated throughout the journey of our lives builds a new perspective. The Heart of Aging with Wisdom and Vitality is a wisdom and vitality-based approach to living our lives, particularly at mid age and beyond, with meaning and contribution. We can celebrate and build upon as we design the years ahead. It is an opportunity to move from seeing aging as a time of beginning limitations, diminishment and losses, to a new paradigm of an expanded consciousness that brings more meaning and purpose to life.
This series is divided into two six-part series, each 2.5 hours in length. It is offered through the Martha Retreat Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta.
